Behind the Scenes at Sanlorenzo’s Latest SX112 Water Launch

The SX112 is the flagship model of Sanlorenzo’s most popular line, including the 76, 88, 100 and led by 112.

Come experience Italian design, ingenuity and…opera.

In the journey of building a yachting icon, there are moments that stand out—and none more so than a yacht’s first encounter with the water. A launch isn’t just a technical milestone; it’s a celebration, and Sanlorenzo knows how to make it unforgettable. I had the privilege of witnessing that magic firsthand last Thursday, marking the culmination of nearly a year’s effort to create what we humbly believe is the most remarkable SX112 yet.

We received word of the proposed launch date about a month in advance—just enough time to rearrange schedules and ensure we were there in person for such an occasion. And it was worth every moment. The ceremony unfolded with all the grace and heritage you’d expect from Sanlorenzo: a classic champagne smash, heartfelt words from Sanlorenzo’s Yachting Director, and the yacht’s slow, deliberate journey toward the sea, all set to the soaring notes of Bocelli’s “Con te Partirò.” The Italians certainly know how to infuse every moment with a touch of grandeur.

Once she touched water, the crew jumped into action—a controlled scramble to check for leaks, test engine operation, and assess the overall vessel health. Everything went smoothly, and the event wrapped up with a guided tour showcasing the yacht in its nearly completed form. While the finishing touches and final testing will continue over the next eight weeks, what we saw was nearly finished to the naked eye.

Although the SX112 is an existing model, we’re incredibly proud of the level of customization achieved with this build. This particular 112 boasts five cabins, including an expansive on-deck master suite, a luxurious sauna and steam shower, an enlarged second master on the lower deck, and even wall hookups for musical instruments. The audio setup features studio-grade surround sound—perfect for creating the ultimate onboard atmosphere.

Final delivery is scheduled for June, and the owners are eagerly anticipating a Mediterranean tour before the yacht makes its transatlantic journey in September.

The SX112 is propelled by 4 Volvo Penta engines and IPS drives. and steadied with Volvo Penta trim tabs and large hydraulic fins.

The event started at 2pm, as the vessel was transferred from a hydraulic trailer to travel lift.

Once transferred to the travel lift, the anchor was dropped, when a champagne bottle was engineered on a string just right for the ceremonious christening.

Just as the keel entered the water, the crescendo of Bocelli’s “Con te Partirò” rang out. Quite the touch!

After the ceremony, we were able to tour the yacht, making note of all the progress made since our last visit. We returned the following day to discuss important findings and set the schedule over the next 8 weeks.
